Several people were killed or injured in what can be described as one of the bloodiest festive seasons on Merafong roads. Two people died in an accident on the N12 near Fochville on 11 December and one patient was airlifted to Baragwanath Hospital. A man and a woman died when the vehicle in which they were traveling collided with a bridge on the P111 on 19 December. Fourteen people sustained serious injuries when the driver of a taxi lost control of the vehicle at the Wedela circle on 18 December, sending it downhill towards the nearby soccer fields. Two victims were trapped in the vehicle.
