VEREENIGIGNG.- The residents of Steelpark say they will only be addressed by Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Mayor Simon Mofokeng. The group of residents has been barricading the Boy Louw Road in Vereeniging after a water supply interruption and continued load shedding in the area.

“We are one of the communities that have to pay escalating rates and taxes to the municipality because if we don’t our electricity gets cut off.”

Residents say that although they pay, they still do not get basic service delivery from the municipality. “There has been no water in our area since  July 20. We were promised that there would no longer be any load shedding but in Steelpark load shedding still exists.  We no longer have pot holes but “Bath Holes”.

Residents further said they would continue with their protest should they not be addressed. “If our issues are not addressed, there will be no voting polls in this area come Wednesday. The protest was joined in by School children from the are area who said that their school had been closed because of the water supply interruption.
