A dummy is reported to have been used as new hijacking method in the area on 9 March. According to the Carletonville SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Peter Masoea, the police were called to a scene on the main road through Welverdiend that looked like a hit and run accident. When they arrived, they found the dummy of a person in male clothing lying next to the road. ‘These dummies appear to be a new modus operandi that lures people into stopping to verify whether it is, indeed, a hit and run,’ Masoea said. He urged members of the public to be alert and exercise caution when driving.
