A 48-year-old police warrant officer accused of rape was released on R3000 bail in the Ventersdorp Magistrates’ court on Monday.
He is expected to appear again on 21 November. The officer, based in Potchefstroom was arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl from Tshing township on 15 October.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) arrested him last Wednesday, according to Capt. Aafje Botma, the NW police spokesperson. Ipid will continue to investigate the case.
The Ipid spokesperson, Moses Dlamini told The Citizen that two police officers in a Nyala (an armoured police vehicle) allegedly picked-up four girls in Tshing on Monday.
‘They promised the girls food and drinks. When they got to town, they told two of the girls to get out of the Nyala and left with the other two. They took one of the girls to a guest house and raped her there,’ Dlamini said.
