According to Eskom, Merafong owes them R272 214 596.71. If the municipality does not pay this, Eskom will start to cut electricity to Fochville from 12 March and to Carletonville from 19 March.
During the first week of the cuts, electricity will be gone in the mornings and afternoons.
If the municipality does not respond, it will be cut from 06:00 to 20:00 from Mondays to Fridays.
Eskom also says that it may, upon 15 calendar days’ notice, serve the right to disconnect electricity entirely if the debt should not improve.
The public can submit questions or responses about to the matter to Eskom until 16 February.
