New measures in Merafong related to refuse removal and funerals

The Merafong City Local Municipality has made new plans to deal with problems related to service delivery in the area.

According to the MMC, Ms Bella Lephuthing, special arrangements have been made to deal with refuse removal during this time.

“Although there were problems because workers wanted protective clothing just before the lockdown, everything is now going according to plan. Residents must make sure that they put out their dustbins on the days that their rubbish should be removed, and take them in again afterwards. People must not dump rubbish,” she says.

Anyone in the Fochville, Kokosi and mining areas with problems about refuse removals, must phone Mr Legodi at 0173 417 1213.

Those in Carletonville, Khutsong and Wedela with problems can phone Mr Peter Mitseki at 073 357 1942.

If you cannot get hold of these people, phone the MMC at 076 179 3719.

In the meantime residents of Wedela who would have had their refuse removed tomorrow, must now put it out on Saturday.

In the meantime, families who want to bury loved ones, will only be allocated an hour to bury their loved ones.

“This has already been communicated to undertakers and attendance registers will be given out to families. There may not be any more than 50 people at a funeral,” she says.

“SAPS, public safety and councilors will monitor whether people keep to the rules,” she added.

Families will be held responsible to make sure that the correct safety measures are put in place to combat the spread of Covid-19.
