House robbers attack family

A family from the Welverdiend area had a harrowing experience last week.

According to the Carletonville police, the incident happened at the new Khutsong Extension 6 area next to Welverdiend on Wednesday, 17 March.
The family was in the house when three unknown men walked in at approximately 18:00. All three were armed.
The Sotho-speaking thugs immediately demanded money.
When the family members couldn’t produce anything satisfactory, they grabbed the 70-year-old uncle and started assaulting him. They also scalded him with boiling water.
The thugs tied the family up and took various goods, including money, clothes, cell phones and the keys to the uncle’s Toyota Dyna truck. They loaded him and another family member onto the back and drove off.
Luckily, both managed to free themselves near the Elijah Barayi mega housing project and jumped off the back of the truck. They ran home, untied their family members and called the police.
By the time the newspaper went to print, the truck and other stolen goods had still not been recovered.
