Filthy entrance to town

Motorists’ vehicles are splattered with sewage every time they drive in or out of Welverdiend.

People crossing the railway line in and out of the town would have noticed a huge dam of sewage next to the crossing and flowing down the road.
According to the residents, the human waste has been leaking from a maintenance hole in the long grass near the railway line for weeks.
It was so bad during the Herald’s visit on Monday that no vehicles could get around the mess. Pedestrians had to carefully find dry patches and carry their children to prevent their shoes and clothes from getting soiled. An angry resident, Mr Pieter Schwartz, complained to the Herald about the issue on Monday.
“I am ashamed that our beautiful, historical little town looks like this,” he complains. The Herald took the issue to the municipality on Tuesday.
“There’s a blockage on the main- line to the pump station. We have ordered a Jet-Vac machine to unblock the line,” the municipal spokesperson replied.
