Robbers on a crime spree

A gang of armed robbers caused havoc in the early hours of last Saturday.

The Carletonville police say a filling station attendant at the Blyvoor Engen was cleaning the fuel pumps when a man approached him at approximately 02:00. He asked for fuel but did not have a container into which it could be poured.
The attendant suggested that he could buy a container for R17, but before they concluded the trans- action, four more men arrived at the scene. They grabbed the employee and forced him into his office.
They searched for money in the safe but grabbed R2,000 from the cash register. The thugs grabbed the employee’s cell phone before storming to the Overland bottle store in the same complex.
Once there, they forced an employee to open the cash register and grabbed R4,000. On their way out, the thugs spotted a blue VW Polo driving towards the filling station. They walked up to the vehicle and started assaulting the driver and passengers.
They stabbed one man with a knife and shot him in the shoulder. They also shot a passenger in her leg and forced the driver and passengers out. The thugs then fled with the Polo.
The police opened two cases of business robbery, two cases of attempted murder and one of car-jacking.
The Polo was found abandoned near Wedela later in the day.
