Police arrest illegal immigrants

The police arrested more than 20 illegal immigrants in the Carletonville area last weekend.

Carletonville police’s communication officer, WO Peter Masooa, says police from all over the West Rand held operations with other law enforcement agencies over the weekend.
The operations aimed to combat crime by arresting offenders, tracing wanted suspects, preventing crimes and investigating cases.
A total of 171 suspects were arrested in the Carletonville area during the operation, including 25 illegal immigrants.
Other people were arrested for the possession of drugs, possession of dangerous weapons, housebreaking, drunken driving and the pointing of a firearm, among other crimes.
“We encourage community members who employ people from outside our country to help them get legal registration in their countries and permits to work in the Republic of South Africa. They should also report where these people are involved in criminal activities,” says Masooa.
The suspects were due to appear in court on Monday, 5 September.
