The Khutsong Extension 5 bridge area between Carletonville and Welverdiend continues to be a crime hotspot.
On Monday, 6 May, a resident (32) drove his white VW Polo 6 towards Welverdiend and stopped at the bridge to urinate around 18:00. Four unknown Zulu-speaking men suddenly approached him, and one pulled out a firearm.
“Get back into your vehicle,” they ordered.
The hijackers drove around with him for some time before two of them forced him out.
They instructed him to hand over his bank card and Pin code, and the other two drove off with them.
They later returned to pick up the pair who had watched him. They then took his cell phone, tied the victim up with his shoelaces and fled. The victim could untie himself and realised he was in the veld near Murray and Roberts on the P111. He fetched help and reported the incident to the police.
