Water cuts: Carletonville and Fochville area to be affected after municipality does not pay outstanding Rand Water account

Rand Water says it has come to a decision about the matter after asking for comments earlier this year.

Rand Water published several advertisements in today’s edition of the Carletonville and Fochville Herald in which it notifies residents that it will reduce the bulk drinking water supply to the Merafong Local Municipality.

According to Rand Water, it has reached a final decision on the matter.

“The decision was made after careful consideration of all submissions received in response to the Public Notice published on 24 May 2024 in accordance with the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act No. 3 of 2000 (“PAJA”),” Rand Water says.

Rand Water says it has now decided to reduce the bulk water supply to the municipal area by 20 per cent, which leaves the municipality with 80 per cent of its supply.

The decision will come into effect on Tuesday 17 September.

Rand Water bases its decision on the fact that Merafong owes it more than a R1 billion, but has only paid R28 million over the past three months.

The Merafong City Local Municipality comprises of the towns Carletonville, Fochville, Khutsong, Kokosi, Blybank, Welverdiend, Wedela and Greenspark.
