Wedela: Learners warned of kidnapping, rape and sexual assault

They were also donated clothes.

Police in Wedela are continuing their actions to engage with the community.

Their social crime prevention officer Sergeant Zikhona Sifuba and other members of their Helping Hands team recently went to the farm Boshoek to talk to residents.

The group, which also included the Green Door Ambassador Nozizwe Maphomolo, arrived on the farm at about 10:00 and immediately started to talk to the community.

“The purpose of the engagement was to teach learners about kidnapping, rape and sexual assault,” explains Sifuba.

“They must not be afraid to report it, whether it happens at home or school. They must tell a person that they trust or a teacher, or they can come to the police station to report it to me if they don’t trust anyone,” she added. To put more fun into this rather dark topic the group brought a jumping castle for the kids to entertain themselves. The children, whose parents were also present, were then given some clothes.

“The kids and parents were very happy about the initiative. We reached a total of 145 people,” says Sifuba.
