Plans to fix up Khutsong South clinic
Patients from this area have had to travel far to get help.
The Gauteng Department of Health has new plans to get the clinic at Khutsong Ext 5 in a working condition. Gauteng MEC for Health Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko promised during the State of the Province Debate last month that the “Khutsong Clinic will be completed and operational.”
Because she did not specify which clinic and given the fact that the Khutsong Ext 5 clinic has been standing empty since 2017, the Herald made further enquiries to the Gauteng Department of Health.
“The clinic the MEC referred to is the new Khutsong South Clinic,” says Khutso Rabothata, the acting chief director of communication in the Gauteng Department of Health.
“The clinic was completed, but there was remedial and incomplete works that needed to happen before the clinic was ready for occupation. Such works included ICT, medical equipment, remedial works on the earthworks and wet services. The original contractor was terminated due to issues of dispute with the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID), prior to them completing and remedying the aforementioned works,” he added.
According to Rabothata, there are plans to complete the project at last.
“Gauteng Department of Health Infrastructure Management has received the appointment documentation for the new contractor assigned to complete and remedy the works from DID. However, during an onsite verification of the scope of works and the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) on September 5, in the presence of DID officials and the Professional Service Providers who developed the BOQ, it was determined that the BOQ needs revision. A significant portion of the listed works was found to be unnecessary and was to be removed from the scope. The deadline for this revision was set for September 11,” he says.
“The project has been rekindled, and the commitment to complete it has been clearly communicated. However, due to these dependencies, an exact completion date cannot be provided at this time,” Rabothata added.
