Kokosi extension 6 residents endure prolonged power outages amid broken cables and safety concerns
The electricity problems also lead to safety issues.
Residents of Kokosi Extension 6 at Fochville are enduring extended power outages after several electricity cables were reported to be broken.
The ongoing issue has left many homes without power, disrupting daily life and raising safety concerns in the area. Community leader Excellent Thabiso Ngonze expressed his frustration with the situation, stating, “It’s been days since the power went out, and the municipality has done nothing to fix the broken cables.
This is a basic service we should be able to rely on, yet we are left in the dark. Our people need answers.
” Local residents are also struggling with the lack of electricity. Busiswa Jeni, a mother of two, said, “I’ve had to use candles for days, and it’s dangerous with children around. I can’t cook properly, and we don’t even have light at night. We need this fixed urgently.”
The power outages are also affecting local safety. Bulelwa Sange, who works in the area, highlighted the added risks: “With the lights out, it’s harder to patrol at night. The darkness makes it difficult to monitor the area, and it increases the risk of crime. This situation needs to be addressed immediately for the safety of everyone.”
The municipality did not respond to questions about the matter.
