Merafong Municipality faces payment disparities: Some areas pay, while others don’t

In several areas less than 10% of residents pay for services.

People in some towns in the Merafong City Local Municipality area do not pay for services, while other areas are paying what they owe the municipality.

Although the municipal manager, Dumisani Mabuza, indicated in June that he would get all residents capable of doing so, to pay for services, this is still not happening.

This information came to light during the last council meeting on October 29.

Oberholzer is currently the municipal town or area with the highest payment rate, that of 121.35%. Fochville is also boasting with a payment rate of 104.67%.

Welverdiend is Merafong’s third-best payer with a collection rate of 91.61%. Unfortunately, at the bottom end of the payment spectrum, several towns have payment rates of less than 10%.

They are Wedela with a 9.47% payment rate, Blybank with a payment rate of 3.96%, Kokosi with a 3.77% payment rate, Khutsong with a 3.76% payment rate, the Elijah Barayi mega housing complex with a payment rate of 3.74% and residents of farms in the Carletonville area with a payment rate of 3.55%.

The town with the lowest payment rate in Merafong is Khutsong South, where only 2.07% of residents pay for services.

A total of 56.91% of Carletonville residents paid for their services. The payment rate for Greenspark is 15.58%, while 76.60% of Pretoriusrus residents pay for services. The payment rate for Watersedge is 40.30%.
