SAPS hosts awareness campaign in Wedela to combat domestic violence and crime
SAPS officials from elsewhere in the West Rand also came to assist.
SAPS members from all over the area gathered in Wedela for an awareness campaign.
According to the social crime prevention officer of the police in Wedela, sergeant Zikhona Sifuba, social crime prevention officers and domestic violence coordinators from all over the West Rand gathered in Wedela at the end of October.
Officials from the health department in the area, as well as officials from the departments of community safety and social development also joined.
Members of the Wedela Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the Youth Desk were also part of the action.
The group gathered at the Wedela taxi rank and distributed pamphlets on important issues such as domestic violence, human trafficking, hijacking, kidnapping and abduction, housebreaking, and substance and alcohol abuse.
They also informed the public about how to prevent other general crimes and told them about the services rendered by A Re Ageng Victim Empowerment Centres elsewhere in the West Rand.
The group reached about 70 residents and distributed 190 pamphlets.
