Rotara School’s manager helps needy learners

Some local businesses also assisted with the food parcels.

Learners from the Rooipoort Farm School just outside Carletonville enjoyed a special occasion on November 29 when they were treated to an outreach by the manager of Rotara School, Samuel Malene.

Malene says he saw how dire the situation at Rooipoort was and decided to hold a fundraising to help them. He organised a drive to gather school shoes and sanitary pads for the learners.

“Most of the learners from this community are from unemployed parents with severe poverty. The only meal most of them receive is the meal served at school through the National School Nutrition Programme,” explains Malene.

With the school holidays and the festive season dawning closer, leaving the children with no prospect of a balanced meal in sight, Malene also organised food parcels for the learners with the help of some local businesses.

“This is an ongoing project and everyone’s support and donations will go a long way,” says the Good Samaritan.
