Carletonville hijacking: Driver survives ambush after VW Polo breaks down

The owner was left on the side of the road.

The driver of a VW Polo survived a hijacking ambush in Carletonville after the vehicle developed mechanical issues.

The 37-year-old resident was driving his 2015 model VW Polo at Western Deep Levels at approximately 04:00 when he was forced to pull off onto the side of the road.

He had just pulled off on the side of the road when four unknown men walked up to him, initially pretending to be of assistance.

Suddenly one of the suspects pulled out a firearm and demanded the victim’s vehicle. All the suspects jumped into the Polo and drove off with it, leaving the victim on the side of the road.

The police in Carletonville are investigating a hijacking case following the incident.
