Major sewage leak in Oberholzer causes disruption and safety hazards
It is not the first time that sewage has been leaking in this area.

During the past week, one of the worst sewage leaks was in front of the municipality’s buildings.
On Monday morning a huge amount of sewage was streaming from a manhole at the corner of Ada Street and Canal Street in Oberholzer.
Sewage was flowing on the sidewalk to the licensing department, forcing pedestrians to walk in the road.
Motorists driving on this road toward Khutsong and the N14 had no choice but to swerve in front of oncoming traffic to miss them.
Members of the public visiting the licensing and traffic department had to keep their windows closed to avoid getting splashed with sewage.
The sewage eventually flowed into a stormwater drain near Veldman Street.
“This has been an on-and-off problem,” remarked one of the residents walking past the leak. By Tuesday morning residents of the area were still complaining about the leak.
When asked about the matter, the municipality’s marketing and communications manager, Temba Fezani, however said that the problem had been attended to.
