Welverdiend still without electricity after heavy storm

Their electricity has been off since yesterday afternoon.

A heavy storm that ripped through Welverdiend yesterday afternoon has caused an electricity outage in the town.

The whole of Welverdiend, and possibly surrounding areas as well, has been without electricity since before 17:00 yesterday afternoon.

Although there was good rainfall elsewhere in the area as well, some Welverdiend residents measured as much as 80 mm rain falling in less than an hour.

Residents are still waiting for the Merafong City Local Municipality’s electricians to come and sort the problems out.

It is not sure when this will happen as a municipal electrician shared a video on social media showing how the Frikkie substation that supplies Welverdiend was completely flooded.

It is not sure whether some infrastructure was damaged by the water.
