Fochville residents raise alarm over dangerous Du Preez Street
There are almost no traffic signs.

One of the streets in the lower part of Fochville is a big danger to many road users.
Residents of the town complained this week that there are almost no stop streets or signs in the section of Du Preez Street between Kerk and Siebert Streets.
Although this part of Du Preez Street crosses or intersects with President Street, Skool Street, Kruis Street, Munt Street, Bosman Street, Quinn Street, Zuideinde Street and Potchefstroom Street, there are only visible stop signs or road markings at the corners of Munt and Zuideinde Streets.
At most of the stop signs the markings are so faded that motorists will not see them unless they knew that they were supposed to stop.
As there are almost no stop signs some motorists also speed down this street.
“There are many new people in town who do not know that there are supposed to be stops at these streets. It is only a matter of time before an accident occurs at one of these crossings. It is really dangerous,” a resident complained.
At some of the corners, such as at Bosman Street, there are also many potholes that might in fact slow motorists down.
Although the Herald took the problem to the Merafong City Local Municipality on Monday, no feedback was received by printing time.
