A man was shot, a woman wounded and another assaulted in an attack near Blyvooruitzicht this week.

The victims had parked on the side of the R501 in the area apposite the entrance to Blyvoor at approximately 16:30 on April 15. As far as could be determined, they were supposed to meet someone at this spot.

Suddenly a group of unknown attackers stormed up to them from the bushes next to Carletonville.

They started shooting at the people inside the vehicle.

A man who had been inside the vehicle was killed at the scene. A female passenger was also shot while another man inside the vehicle was assaulted.

Police suspect that the incident is linked to illegal mining activities.
