Carleton Jones High learners inspired at Rocking Future Career Expo

The event also marked the launch of the Success Starters programme.

Learners were able to get more information to help them decide about their futures during a big career expo that was held at Carleton Jones High School recently.

According to an organiser, Vicky Saunders-Flaherty, the expo was part of the Rocking Future expos.

It did not only inform learners, but also launched the Success Starters programme at the school, which aims to spotlight extraordinary students who exemplify passion and dedication.

This programme is particularly looking for young entrepreneurs, talented performers, culinary creators, creative artists, sports champions and tech innovators at the respective schools. Except for Carletonville, the Rocking Future expos have so far visited 231 high schools across Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Gqeberha and KwaZulu-Natal and distributed 29 423 Future Guide Magazines.

The magazine is targeted to matric learners packed with useful information to educate, motivate and inspire the readers. Meanwhile schools can nominate one outstanding grade 11 student from their school. The top 20 nominees from across South Africa will be in for a treat as they will receive bursaries from leading private tertiary institutions in addition to other prizes.

The CJ learners say they learned a lot during the event.

“Today taught me that there are a lot of other opportunities available for our youth,” said Naledi Sechele.

“Interesting day today. I learned that I have more options and opportunities regarding colleges and university,” indicated another learner, Blessing Mashigo.

“Today I got exposed to different types of careers and courses and I learned about different kinds of institutions and also got some inspiration about what I want to do,” said Hero Mamkeli.
