Wedela SAPS brings warmth and hope with school shoe donation to learners in need

The outreach showed compassion and community spirit.

On May 23 members of the Wedela SAPS reached out to support vulnerable learners by donating school shoes at Wedela Primary School. This heartwarming initiative was led by the police station’s dedicated social crime officer, Sergeant Zikhona Sifuba, along with her colleagues in the Helping Hands Team.

The outreach was sparked by a compassionate request from local resident Lilly Maishane, who approached Sergeant Sifuba seeking help for a child in need of school shoes. Recognizing the urgency, especially with the winter chill already setting in, Sifuba and her team went beyond the initial request and secured four pairs of shoes to benefit multiple learners.

“We wanted to help other kids without school shoes as well,” said Sifuba. “Each member of Helping Hands helped to buy the shoes. These youngsters could be our future police members, nurses, miners, doctors, teachers, or even our president. We must look after them.”

Sifuba expressed deep gratitude to her team, acknowledging their ongoing dedication to community projects despite facing challenges such as the lack of Social Crime vehicles.

“They are with me in all the projects that I do. I hope and pray they continue, even in our hard times,” she added.

The school expressed heartfelt thanks for the donation, which has already made a significant difference in the lives of the recipients. The Wedela SAPS Helping Hands Team continues to exemplify what it means to serve with care, dignity, and community pride.
