Public urged to contact Sergeant Mantanga with any information.

A manhunt is underway after a police officer was hijacked and kidnapped by a group of armed men in the Carletonville area. The incident occurred recently on the P111 road, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

According to police reports, the officer was driving a state-owned bakkie when he was ambushed by six armed suspects traveling in a Toyota Venture. Three of the suspects jumped out of the vehicle and approached the officer with firearms drawn.

  • One hijacker climbed onto the back of the bakkie, while another entered the passenger side.

  • The officer was forced at gunpoint to drive to a secluded location.

  • Once there, the suspects tied his hands and feet and left him near a mine dump.

  • They fled the scene with his service pistol, two cellphones, and keys to the state vehicle.

Despite the ordeal, the officer managed to flag down a passing mine truck for help.

The case is being investigated by the Special Trio Task Team, which has already identified two suspects still at large.
