East Driefontein man murdered in yard

Police have opened murder and hijacking cases as investigations continue.

A tragic hijacking incident claimed the life of a 42-year-old man from East Driefontein on the evening of Monday, July 7.

The victim, a resident of East Park Crescent, was reportedly preparing for work at around 19:00 when he responded to a knock at his door. Upon opening, he was met by four unknown men who spoke Sesotho and claimed they needed to borrow a jack for their vehicle.

After he told them he didn’t have one, one of the suspects suddenly drew a firearm. The resident attempted to flee to a neighbour’s house but was shot in his yard. The attackers then searched him, took the keys to his white Toyota Hilux bakkie, and fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.

Police later recovered the hijacked bakkie at the Mphahla Village informal settlement near East Driefontein.

Authorities have opened cases of murder and vehicle hijacking. Investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have yet been made.
