A 52-year-old woman was left traumatised after being attacked by a group of armed robbers in her home in Carletonville Extension 9 on the morning of Thursday, 17 July.

The incident took place around 06:00 in De Bruin Street. The woman was inside her home when she heard a suspicious noise near the back door. Seconds later, four men burst into the house, forcing their way inside.

According to police, three of the suspects communicated in Sotho, while the fourth suspect was described as coloured and was armed with a firearm. The intruders forced the woman and her son into his bedroom before continuing into the back room of the house.

“In most house robbery cases in our area, the victims are asleep when robbers force entry and overpower them,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Wessel Prinsloo, commander of the Carletonville Detective Unit.

He emphasised that while many residents may not be able to afford private security systems, even basic precautions can be effective. “Something as simple as a loud alarm can make a big difference. It may scare off intruders and alert neighbours to call the police,” he added.
