Carletonville District Hospital recently hosted its inaugural Employee of the Month awards, a new initiative designed to recognise staff dedication and boost morale.

According to the hospital’s communication officer, Matabo Letsoalo, the ceremony was held on 15 August and attended by the newly appointed Carletonville District Hospital Board, led by Chairperson Mr. Lesego Segwe.

Hospital CEO, Mr. Josias Naidoo, explained that management introduced the awards to honour employees who consistently go beyond the call of duty.
“Our role as management is to create a happy and productive work environment. With the introduction of the Employee of the Month programme, we are optimistic that this goal will be achieved,” he said.

He also highlighted other initiatives such as the Employee Value Proposition, adopted to encourage excellent service delivery to patients and the community.

Mr. Segwe welcomed the initiative, noting that the board was proud to be part of a programme that reflects the hospital’s culture of self-driven individuals who deliver results without the need for excessive supervision.

The first recipient of the award was Ms. Thendana Mary, an Enrolled Nursing Assistant in the Accident and Emergency (Casualty) Department, recognised as July 2025’s best employee.

After receiving her award, Ms. Mary encouraged colleagues to remain motivated.
“Always pray to God to help you do good in everything you do. Be happy, love your role, respect others, and exercise patience without pride,” she said, adding that public servants should remain open to correction and constructive criticism.

Following the ceremony, the board joined Mr. Naidoo on a tour of ongoing refurbishment projects, including upgrades to Ward Five and the hospital’s theatre, where state-of-the-art equipment is being installed.
“I want to turn this hospital into one that matches the standard of our private hospitals,” said Mr. Naidoo.

The board praised his commitment and pledged support to make Carletonville District Hospital a centre of excellence.

The board also met with the Patient Experience of Care Survey Team, which concluded its work on 15 August. Team member Ms. Sophie Nchodu presented the survey process and tools, explaining how the findings will help management implement further improvements for patients.
