Wedela police raise awareness on drugs, alcohol, and assault at primary school

Our young people must stay safe.

Members of the Wedela SAPS, together with other law enforcement partners, reached out to learners at Wedela Primary School last week.

According to Wedela’s social prevention officer, Sergeant Zikhona Sifuba, the awareness campaign was held at the school on August 28. She was joined by the station’s domestic violence coordinator, liquor officer, traffic officers, municipal community safety officials, and wardens.

“The talk was about drugs and alcohol, and sexual assault. Our kids are exposed to drugs and alcohol, and what they watch on television, they want to practice on their fellow students. We talk to them and tell them not to do drugs or drink alcohol. They also must stop hitting girls’ bums. Otherwise, they will be arrested,” said Sifuba.

The group addressed 160 learners in Grades 4 and 5, encouraging them to make positive choices and warning about the consequences of harmful behaviour.
