Man hijacked in Carletonville’s New Industrial Area while driving employer’s vehicle
Police are investigating the incident involving a blue Ford Figo and three suspects.
A man driving his employer’s vehicle was hijacked this week while driving through Carletonville’s New Industrial Area.
On October 7, at approximately 11:45 AM, the victim was driving a Hyundai H100 van loaded with tools. He was preparing to stop at a nearby construction site when a blue Ford Figo pulled up alongside him.
Three unknown men exited the Ford Figo and approached the victim. One of the suspects removed the keys from the van’s ignition and ordered the victim to exit the vehicle. Speaking isiZulu, the assailants forced the driver to get into their car along with one of them, while the other two took control of the van and began driving toward Randfontein.
The hijackers also took the victim’s cellphone before abandoning him on the roadside. Fortunately, the victim managed to flag down a passerby who helped him reach the police station.
Authorities in Carletonville have opened investigations into both hijacking and kidnapping following the incident. The police urge anyone with information to come forward.
