Carletonville Cinema revives local film culture with November showcase
Driven by local actors and filmmakers, the initiative aims to celebrate Merafong’s creative talent and offer the community a platform for authentic storytelling.
The Carletonville Cinema, located at the local sports complex, is breathing new life into the town’s creative scene with a local film showcase scheduled for 1 and 2 November, and continuing every weekend throughout the month.
After being out of operation for several years, the cinema has been revived by local actors and filmmakers who saw the need for a space where Merafong’s creative voices could be heard and appreciated. The initiative is more than just entertainment—it’s about community empowerment, cultural celebration, and creating a safe, supportive platform for local storytellers.
The goal is to ignite a love for locally produced content and encourage support for authentic stories that reflect the lives and experiences of the Carletonville and broader Merafong communities.
Community members are encouraged to attend the screenings and show their support for the local film industry, which continues to grow thanks to grassroots initiatives like this.
