Gauteng West Champions sports day celebrates young talent in Khutsong
Cultural performances and a vibrant opening marked the day, with Tsiboboga and Retlile Primary Schools taking top honours.
The Gauteng West Champions Sports Day took place on Thursday, October 16, at Mbulelo Primary School in Khutsong Township, bringing together talented young athletes from across the region.
The event followed a series of district-level competitions, with various schools earning their place at the championship. Learners competed in soccer and netball under-11 and under-13 categories, demonstrating both athleticism and sportsmanship.
Before the games commenced, the day kicked off with a march and drill, accompanied by cultural performances that celebrated the region’s diversity and spirit.
Mbulelo Primary School was selected as the host due to its strong academic performance, well-maintained facilities, and robust relationships with educational stakeholders. The school has been praised for upholding the mandates of the Department of Education and offering a balance of core academics and extracurricular excellence.

Soccer matches were played at the Spades ground, while netball matches took place at the school’s multi-purpose court. Fixtures were organised by relevant code structures to ensure fair play and smooth scheduling.
