Merafong march aims to rock Carletonville over service delivery failures
They plan to demand accountability, ethical leadership, and action against corruption and poor governance in the municipality.
Carletonville is witnessing a major shutdown today, Friday, 24 September, as frustrated residents gather for a mass protest organized by the Merafong Service Delivery Crisis Forum (MSDCF). The march calls for the resignation of Municipal Manager Mr. Dumisani Mabuza and Executive Mayor Ms. Nozuko Best, following growing anger over poor service delivery and alleged corruption within the Merafong City Local Municipality.
The protest aims to send a powerful message to the African National Congress (ANC) and its Renewal Programme, urging leaders to uphold integrity and transparency in local government. The MSDCF has accused the municipality of mismanagement that, if left unchecked, could lead to another Tembisa Hospital-type scandal.

The memorandum of demands focuses on several serious governance and compliance issues, including:

Unverified or fictitious payments — Breaches of MFMA s64(2)(e) and the Auditing Profession Act, 26 of 2005.

Irregular appointments of senior managers — Contraventions of MSA s56 & s57 and MFMA regulations, including the appointment of a former Auditor-General employee without a mandatory cooling-off period.
