The driver of a minibus-taxi was hijacked in Blyvooruitzicht last week.

According to a source the incident took place on October 13.

The victim (20) was driving his white Toyota Quantum minibus from Carletonville to Blyvoor at approximately 19:30. As he was driving near the old Blyvoor Time Office an unknown vehicle stopped in front of him.

Two men jumped from this vehicle and pushed him onto the back seat of his taxi. They then drove off.

The victim later told police that they drove to an unknown site in Johannesburg where a group of criminals stripped the taxi. After some time, the hijackers gave the victim his cellphone back, and he started to hitchhike back home. Luckily, he managed to flag down a passing police vehicle. The police brought him back to the Carletonville taxi rank. The taxi’s owner notified the tracking company and they went to the police station to report the incident.

The police in Carletonville are investigating hijacking and kidnapping.
