Filthy corner near Carletonville entrance still an eyesore
The Merafong City Local Municipality has not responded to inquiries about the issue.
Although it is close to one of the main entrances into Carletonville, the corner of Annan Road and Agnew Road continues to look terrible.
Despite the fact that it is also next to the main route through Carletonville, the corner is again full of rubbish.
The contents of several black rubbish bags had been dumped at this corner when the Herald visited the site on Monday afternoon. This includes used diapers, dirty plastic bags, containers, and other household waste.
The area closer to the corner is littered with a variety of building rubble while someone has cut one of the municipal trees on the sidewalk, and dumped its trunk in the adjacent storm water canal.
This canal has not been cleaned in years and is also full of waste.
To make matters worse, the area is overgrown with tall grass and bushes, which makes it an ideal hiding spot for criminals. Due to the ongoing service delivery issues, this area has been a haven for criminals for years. A woman was murdered in the area previously while armed robbers also attacked a municipal employee staying in one of the government houses next to the corner.
Although the Herald sent questions about the matter to the Merafong City Local municipality’s marketing and communications manager, Temba Fezani. No feedback was received by publication time.
