Fochville swimming pool to be refurbished

The Merafong City Local Municipality says it is in the process of getting the Fochville swimming pool into working order again.

While young people from Carletonville have been able to relax in a municipal pool during the past weeks’ sweltering heat, those from Fochville whose families cannot afford private swimming pools are not so lucky. Even learners and other swimmers in the Fochville area have no public swimming pool to prepare for sporting events.
Fochville’s municipal swimming pool was last open around 2017, and the facility has been standing unused since then.
On Monday, the grass within the swimming pool boundary was more than a metre high. Most of the windows on the outside were broken.
Although the long grass obscures the true extent of the vandalism, much theft must have occurred. The criminals have even stolen the strips of spikes on the front wall. In one place, some of the bricks from the front wall were also removed, presumably to give the criminals a better foothold to climb over the wall.
The Herald took the issue to the municipality on Tuesday. The municipal spokesperson said there were plans to reopen the Fochville swimming pool.
“The municipality has already appointed a service provider to refurbish the pool,” was more good news about the facility.
