The police arrested a resident of Deelkraal a day after someone set fire to the offices in the former mining village last week.

Public violence broke out in this former mining town, and the incident happened at approximately 16:00 on Wednesday, 7 February.

Members of the Carletonville police assessed the situation, and later called members of the police’s Public Order Policing (POP) Unit to the scene.
Detectives started investigating an arson case and arrested Mr Elfrit van der Rheede on 8 February.

Van der Rheede appeared in the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court the following day and did not make bail.
