House robbers strike in Amanzimtoti Street

Residents from Carletonville must be very alert as dangerous criminals sometimes lurk as potential house buyers.

One such crime, which turned into a house robbery, occurred on Thursday 15 February.

A couple contacted the estate agent responsible for selling the house of an elderly woman (71) in Amanzimtoti Street after they had tried to view and buy the house on 13 February. The owner, however, told them that they could not see the house without the estate agent being present and contacted the agent.

The estate agent made an appointment for the couple to see the house 15 February. At first, the couple arrived earlier than the organized time and the owner told them to wait for the estate agent.

Once the estate agent (51) arrived, the owner let them into the yard.

The couple first went to the back rooms before they came into the main house. The next moment two other men and a woman ran into the home.

All were armed with knives. It also turned out that the couple who allegedly wanted to buy the house were, in fact, their accomplices. The thugs grabbed the seller and the estate agent, tied them up and demanded that they open the safe.

Luckily the robbers were disturbed by something before they could proceed and they ran away without taking anything.
