Disabled Carletonville man still missing after two years

Various searches have turned up nothing.

Just more than two years after he went missing, the family of a mentally disabled man from Carletonville is still anguished and has many questions about what may have happened to him.

Frikkie Bester went missing in Carletonville in 2022 on July 28 after taking his bicycle and riding off during the afternoon without his relatives knowing.

His family still thinks he did this because he was upset over the death of his mother and did not know how to deal with the situation.

“If we could only know what happened to him. One hears so many things, such as that there are a lot of human trafficking in the area,” says his sister Marietjie McIntyre.

The search attempts of family and helpers on various networks ended in dead-ends, and they even searched on foot.

The police closed the case in December 2022, and the help from correctional and security services also led to nothing.

“Although we do consider that he might not be alive anymore, we still cling to the hope that he is still alive. If we could only get closure, but now we will always wonder,” says McIntyre.

Frikkie is intellectually challenged, vulnerable and requires medical treatment.

McIntyre asks anyone who thinks they may have seen Frikkie or who might know where he is to contact her on 063 671 5351.
