Merafong youth empowered through arts, theatre and media

Glitters of the Future Production can be found at Gugulethu in Khutsong South.

A new theatre production titled Glitters of the Future Production has emerged and is playing a positive role in the community by involving youth in drama activities.

The production’s activities resumed in 2020 with the primary focus on development, minimising drug abuse, teenage pregnancy, bullying, and gangsterism in the Merafong community. “Even though not all youth has a keen interest in sports, the media space was greatly neglected. Therefore we started this initiative from a humble beginning,” stated the founder, Mmatsela Edith Phage Nkqayi. Glitters of the Future Production has promotes positive exposure for the youth in various facets of the media, arts, as well as creative works and showcase creativity in the form of theatre plays, visual art and, dance.

Glitters of the Future Production can be found at Gugulethu in Khutsong South on Fridays and Saturdays between 15:00 and 17:00 as they always perform and practice new scripts. This platform allows the youth to express their inner anger, joy, and dissatisfaction allowing them to deal with these social challenges and on the contrary find strength in healing and the development of a career in arts. The production is currently looking to raise funds to procure equipment and recruit camera operators, video editors, sound engineers, and make-up artists to be able to create their own short stories. The aim of shooting their own short stories is to display them on various social media platforms and to inevitably apply for international short story festivals to propel new adventures in the development of the arts by partnering with other prominent productions worldwide.

Glitters of the Future Production consists of five directors who have different roles like Mmatsela Nkqayi( Marketing Director), Mthokozisi Sebele (Theatre Director and Scriptwriter), TK Lehasa (Visual and Film Director), Tshiamo Dipheko (Dance Director) and Fikile Nonjoko ( Choreography).
