Baby girl found safe near Fochville after car hijacking, suspects on the run
The incident happened on the road between Fochville and Carletonville.

A baby girl was found safe after her mother’s car was hijacked with her in it.
According to the station commander of the Wedela Police Station Captain Wayne Pestana, a Fochville resident was driving her white Honda in the area of Vaal Maseru on the R500 when her one-year-old baby girl started crying.
She pulled off on the side of the road to check on the child.
Two men, one armed with a knife, walked up to the mother and threatened her to get into the passenger side of the vehicle.
She, however, managed to get away from the vehicle.
Instead of going after her, the men jumped into her car and sped off with the little girl still inside. Fochville CPF patrollers responded after receiving an alert about a hijacked white Honda with the caller’s one-year-old in it.
The vehicle was found abandoned in Greenspark with the girl still in the vehicle. The suspects had run away.
The child was suffering from heat exhaustion. Fast work by patrollers and other members of the Fochville Community Policing Forum (CPF) ensured she was quickly reunited with her mother. Both were taken to hospital after the incident.
The police’s trio task team is now investigating cases of hijacking and kidnapping.
The trio task team is responsible for investigating house robbery, business robbery, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearm cases.
