Motorist hijacked near Carletonville: Armed men steal bakkie, money, and valuables

They eventually dropped him in Soweto.

A motorist was hijacked while driving through the Carletonville area this week.

The man was driving his Nissan Almera on the R501 when the incident occurred on November 15. He was driving near the Elijah Barayi mega-housing complex at approximately 07:20 when a white Ford Ranger bakkie suddenly stopped in front of him.

The bakkie blocked the road and the motorist was forced to stop. Four men jumped out of the Ranger pointing firearms at the victim.

They grabbed the motorist, blindfolded him, and stuffed him inside the bakkie. They drove around with him for a long time and took his cellphone, money, and Adidas sneakers. After some time, the hijackers took him out of the bakkie and forced him to sit and wait in a chair at an unknown location.

After some time one of the hijackers came to him and told him in isiZulu that they were going to drive again. They then dropped him off at an unknown place and drove off. The victim managed to get help from bystanders and reported the case to the nearest police station, which was in Kliptown in Soweto.
