Fochville residents express frustration over delayed repairs
It is not sure exactly when the problems will be sorted out.
Sewage again leaked down a street on the eastern side of Fochville this week. So much sewage was streaming down Hawer Street on November 29 that pedestrians could not walk in the street or on the sidewalk next to it.
They had to make a wide turn around the manhole from which it came.
“I have been reporting this leak to the municipality for the past two weeks but no one is paying attention,” a resident staying next to the leak, Johan Knell, complained. The municipality says the problems are linked to a project to upgrade infrastructure and will be sorted out when the project is completed.
“The sewer line in Hawer Street is connecting to the sewer line that passes through the area where construction is in progress. Sewer spillage was due to the flow
obstruction caused by the sewer project construction. The flow was back ponding. The municipality urges the community to be patient pending the completion of the
sewer project as it might affect the existing,” says the municipality’s spokesperson, Temba Fezani.
