Quick action by Carletonville police constable leads to arrest
Community members stopped the police officer and told him what the man had allegedly done,
Fast work by a member of the Police in Carletonville ensured that a dangerous criminal did not get far last weekend.
The police constable was driving in his marked van in Khutsong Extension 4 at about 18:29. Suddenly a group of community members stopped him.
They told him that a suspected criminal who robbed a man in the area of his firearm was being chased by other community members. Two other people had been shot at the site. The police member started driving around, searching for the suspect. He soon spotted the man in the open veld in Extension 5 close to the pedestrian bridge.
The policeman had just stepped out of his van to confront the suspect when this man shot at him. The policeman returned fire and hit the suspect in his left upper leg. This caused the thug to surrender immediately. He also handed over the stolen firearm, a 9 mm pistol licensed in the name of the man who he stole it from.
He was arrested and taken to hospital.
