Welverdiend’s sewerage problems getting worse

Residents have been complaining about sewerage problems in this area for years.

Even though it did not rain as much as a week ago, sewage leaks in Welverdiend worsened.

“Can the municipality please give attention to the sewage streaming down our street?” complained a resident of 12th Avenue in Welverdiend.

The resident complained that sewage from an overflowing manhole streams down this street every day.

“This has been going on for months. Can someone please do something?” he complained.

The resident said that he has reported it to the municipality several times.

He said he had received a reference number from the municipality before, but nothing was done. Meanwhile, several residents also complained again about the sewage leak on the side of 26th Avenue.

At this site, sewage streamed from a manhole and flowed through the veld into the Wonderfonteinspruit.

By Monday, so much sewage was leaking at this site that one could not even see the outline of the manhole.

Although the Herald asked the Merafong City Local Municipality about when Welverdiend’s sewerage problems would be sorted out, no answers were received.
