A shocking armed robbery took place this week on Wolfram Street, directly opposite Hoërskool Carletonville, leaving a local family traumatised and their property stolen.

At around 19:25 on May 11, the 49-year-old homeowner asked his son to bring their dog inside. Moments later, two armed robbers appeared at the door and forced the son back inside the house at gunpoint. The suspects, speaking Sesotho and isiZulu, immediately demanded cash.

The situation escalated when the resident’s wife arrived home and was also overpowered by the intruders. “We know you have money,” the robbers told her before tying up the entire family when she denied having any.

The suspects stole a television, multiple cellphones, a laptop, and jewellery, before fleeing the scene in the family’s Renault Sandero.

No injuries were reported, but the Carletonville SAPS have launched an investigation. As of now, no arrests have been made.
