The victim, a member of CALLDTA, was fatally shot at the Carletonville Taxi Rank.

Violence in the local minibus-taxi industry has claimed yet another life in Carletonville. On Wednesday, 3 July, police were called to the Carletonville Taxi Rank after members of the public reported hearing multiple gunshots.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a man lying near the Total filling station inside the taxi rank. The victim had sustained several gunshot wounds and was declared dead on the scene.

He was later identified as 52-year-old Sniko Lernocx Magabuko, a well-known member of the Carletonville Local and Long Distance Taxi Association (CALLDTA). Magabuko was a resident of the Elijah Barayi mega housing project.

The motive behind the killing has not been officially confirmed, but the incident is believed to be linked to ongoing tensions and conflicts within the taxi industry in the area. Investigations are currently underway.

This marks another troubling incident in a series of violent acts related to the taxi sector, raising fresh concerns about the safety of those involved in the industry.

Police have urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward.
