Members of the Wedela Police Service recently combined sport and public safety during a successful outreach event held on July 19.

According to the SAPS’s social crime officer, Sergeant Zikhona Sifuba, a soccer team from Wedela SAPS went head-to-head with a team from the Department of Justice in Fochville. The match was more than just a game—it aimed to strengthen professional bonds and foster a spirit of teamwork between the two departments.

“The purpose of this game was to make friends with each other. We want to have a good working relationship with each other,” said Sergeant Sifuba.

In a well-played match, the SAPS team emerged victorious with a 4–0 win.

Aside from the friendly rivalry, officers also handed out 105 pamphlets to community members attending the event. These pamphlets included practical safety tips and urged residents to get to know their neighbours, as well as to keep important SAPS contact numbers close at hand. Information shared included contact details for the Wedela police station and its various sector numbers.

The event was praised for building both team spirit and community trust—key elements in the ongoing fight against crime in the area.
