Truck hijacked on N14 near Carletonville

The armed suspects fled with the vehicle after abducting and dumping the driver.

A truck hijacking incident occurred on the N14 near Carletonville on the evening of Wednesday, 24 July, leaving the driver stranded and the vehicle missing.

According to a trustworthy source, the 42-year-old driver of a Mercedes-Benz truck pulling a Dolphin trailer filled with margarine was travelling on the N14 at around 19:30, nearing the R500 crossing, when he noticed a white double cab bakkie with blue lights behind him.

Believing it to be a police vehicle, the driver pulled over. As he stopped, two unknown suspects approached the truck. One of them was armed and forced the driver out at gunpoint, placing him into their bakkie.

The hijackers drove with the victim toward Magaliesburg, where they dumped him on a railway line and fled with the truck and trailer.

The driver was not physically harmed, but the truck, trailer, and its margarine cargo remain missing. Local authorities have launched an investigation into the hijacking, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Carletonville police station.

This incident highlights growing concerns about truck hijackings on Gauteng routes, especially along the N14, a known hotspot for freight-related crimes.
